As we continue with our daily lives,
We become exposed to harmful chemicals. These chemicals can be found in our food supply, the air we breathe, cosmetics, household cleaners, etc.
Chemicals build upon our bodies and stall weight loss. While several factors may contribute to the adverse effect, research shows that toxins play a huge role in being overweight or obese.
But there’s good news!
Your body is well equipped to eliminate toxins and does not require expensive supplements to do so.
That being said, you can enhance your body’s detoxification mechanism to help you get rid of harmful toxins.
By removing and eliminating toxins, feeding your body with healthy nutrition, you become protected from disease, and your ability to maintain good health increases.
What is detoxification?
Do you often feel an unfathomable gloom or discomfort?
It feels like there is an ailment when there is none?
These are signs that your body is harboring harmful substances and unwanted wastes.
You get rid of these dangerous substances by detoxifying. It simply means cleansing the blood.
This is done by removing impurities from the blood in your liver where the toxins are processed for elimination.
The body also eliminates toxins through the lungs, intestine, lymphatic system, and skin.
“Detoxification works because it addresses the needs of the individual cells, the smallest unit of human life,” says Peter Bennett, N.D., and Sara Faye.
While your body has an inherent detox system, there are ways to support it. Let’s look at some of the natural ways to keep your body clean and free from harmful toxins.
Keep yourself hydrated
A large percentage of the human body is made up of water. Water does so much for the body than quenching your taste.
Regular intake of water can help regulate your body temperature, aids digestion, absorption, lubricates joints and removes water products.
Water officially flushes out harmful toxins through urination, breathing, or sweating. A good way to start your day is by drinking a glass of water.
Get enough sleep
A good night’s sleep has a positive impact on your body’s health and natural detoxification system.
Studies show that sleeping helps to remove toxic water byproducts and sucks out stress from your previous day’s activities.
Lack of sleep can cause both short and long term health conditions like:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- High blood pressure
- Diabetics
- Obesity
A general rule of thumb is that sleeping for 7 to 9 hours daily is essential for good health.
If you are having difficulty in getting – or staying – asleep, try sticking to a bedtime routine or reducing blue light from mobile and computer screens at least an hour before bedtime.
Limit stress
Stress triggers the release of a hormone called cortisol.
Cortisol has been linked to several negative impacts on health such as weight gain, high cholesterol, and increased blood pressure.
When you take proactive steps to minimize stress levels, it goes a long way in keeping your body balanced and getting rid of harmful toxins.
Reduce your intake of sugar
Sugar and processed food put an additional burden on your digestive system. The high sugar level is associated with health disease, cancer, and diabetics.
This hinders your body’s ability to naturally detoxify itself. For example, sugary food can cause fatty liver.
Replace sugary beverages with other healthy choices like dates, berries, honey, jaggery, and stevia.
If you’re having a hard time breaking away from it, try not putting it in your kitchen.
What you cannot see, you can’t consume.
Exercise regularly
Exercise helps to release water that gets stored in the skin tissues as fat, along with pent-up toxins through sweating. This makes room for fresh oxygen that speeds up your body’s natural detoxification process.
Try sweating out on a treadmill or a basketball four for half an hour daily.
Avoid caffeine
Your body tends to detoxify itself naturally, and caffeine stands as a strong enemy to it.
It’s better to say no to caffeine and tea if you’re in detox mode. While caffeinated products help you focus on your work, it can spike up the acid-level in your stomach.
It’s not easy to give up an addiction, I know. A way that works for me is to set up achievable milestones for yourself.
For example, “Stay caffeine-free for two days”
Do this regularly and you’ll price remarkable changes.
Fast
Your liver, kidney, and lungs play an important role in flushing out toxins from your blood. A great way to fasten your body’s detoxification process is to perform intermittent fasting.
Some people prefer to do a daily fast while others heavily restore their calorie intake for 2-3 days. When fasting daily, one may eat between noon and 8pm each day, and then fast from 8pm till noon the next day.
If you go with the second method, it means you consume only water. But, you can choose to add freshly squeezed juice to this.
Practice meditation
You’ve probably heard this a million times.
Your mind entertains new thoughts every 1.5 seconds. Imagine the noise and chatter! Closing the 17 tabs open in your mind at night seems nearly impossible.
With meditation, you can become more restful and this reduces your mental stress.
Try taking out time from your busy day to meditate as a daily detox strategy.
Eat lots of fruit
“But what do fruits do for the body?”
Fruits are one of the healthiest foods in the world. The more fruits and vegetables you eat, the better you become.
Prepare fruits and salad to eat with your meals. A fresh fruit diet is an amazing way to detox your body.
Take a break from devices
You may not realize this, but technology is a drug and excess
Going on digital detox reduces mental stress. Stay away from your mobile phones, laptops, tv screens for a certain number of hours each day.
Be aware of apps that take the most of your time and turn off their notifications.
Rather than staying on screens, try taking a walk at the park or other offline activities.
